PEARED WITH HINE:
BABY ASSESSMENT TOY FOR CEREBRAL PALSY
Cerebral Palsy (CP) describes a group of mostly congenital, lifelong conditions that affect motor skills, muscle tone and movement. The earlier the condition is detected, the earlier treatment can start for the patient, improving their quality of life for the future. Thus, it is imperative that CP is detected as early as possible.
The Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) is a standardised test aimed to analyse and track symptoms of CP in babies aged 3-24 months old. One of the items in the test is 'motion quality'. After discussion with medical professionals at the Evelina's Children Hospital (London), we discovered that physiotherapists found it difficult to assess this item from bare sight. Therefore, we created Peared with HINE.
We designed and developed a baby assessment tool for clinicians. Not only does it record motion jerkiness and allows clinicians to access data plots through a website, but it also provides live auditory feedback.
